Terms, in plain English

Who we are. savemarty.com is operated by Short Bread Apps LLC ("we"). Marty is a computer simulation of a fruit fly brain built from published connectome data. He is not a living animal. No animals are involved in or harmed by this site.

What you're buying. "Save Marty" purchases are days of habitat upkeep for a simulated fly, at one dollar per day. "Votes" are entries in a public poll displayed on this site, at one dollar per vote. Both are entertainment purchases. Neither is a donation, a charitable contribution, an investment, or tax-deductible. You receive no ownership of Marty, this site, or anything else.

The goal and the deadline. The $1,000,000 goal and the December 25, 2026 deadline are a storyline. If the goal is met, Marty's simulation continues and we celebrate. If it is not, the leading poll result is enacted as an on-page animation and Marty's simulation is stopped. Either outcome is a piece of interactive entertainment and creates no obligation on us beyond the story.

Refunds. Any purchase can be refunded in full within 14 days by emailing marty@savemarty.com with the name or email used at checkout. Refunded amounts are removed from the counter.

Payments. Handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number. Charges appear as SHORT BREAD APPS.

Names on the page. If you give a first name at checkout it is shown publicly on this site next to your purchase. Leave it blank to appear as "Someone". We may remove any name at our discretion.

Merchandise. Shirts are printed and shipped on demand by our fulfillment partner. Sizing, returns and shipping times are shown at checkout.

The science. Marty's brain is a leaky integrate-and-fire simulation of a published fruit fly connectome, run in your browser. Details, dataset and license are on the how it works page. Claims on this site about Marty's consciousness, self-awareness or feelings are part of the entertainment and are not scientific claims.
